Shadows Never Sleep

I'm young; or so I'm told,
The shadows never sleep so I'm not sold.
They follow me down to the grave they helped me dig.
I've sinned; even more than most,
I guess at least I'm paying back the debt I owe.
Money shouts loud for those that judge me so.
I'm old; what can I say?
I owe it to the world for just wasting away.
You'd never think that life is but a lie.

Oh if I had a coin to toss,
I'd stake my claim and accept my loss for you.
But if I write these words in spite,
pray; forgive me, wrong or right cause they're true.
I gave it all to help you see,
the world that's staring back at me but nothing stuck.
So if I find you've lost your way,
I'd only find these words to say, fucking tough.
If I only knew that what I meant to you;
could never truly keep me out of blue. Well now I do.
But if I could sing you one last song,
then this'd be the one and you'd sing along with me.
